Hugs Soap Making Process

Hugs handmade soap produces an organic protection to the sun, cold, and dryness. The essential fatty acids in the virgin coconut and essential oils help to control moisture, nourish, and restructure the skin. The general health of skin is exactly correlated to its moisture content - how much water it is able to keep. Healthy skin "cleans house" under normal conditions, and can retain moisture. Extreme heat, cold, pollution, ultraviolet rays, and artificial cosmetics create an imbalance in our skin that causes dryness and premature aging.

Handmade soap is made in a pan with pure virgin coconut oil, sodium hydroxide, natural fruit/food/flower extracts, water, essential and/or fragrance oils. Once combined, the vegetable oils and sodium hydroxide react with one another and neutralize into soap. This process is called saponification.

In comparison, most commercial soaps found in groceries are made from a tallow or animal fat. Once the basic soap is made, a machine presses it between sets of rollers to flatten it and remove most of the natural glycerin. The soap is shredded and subjected to a method that squeezes out a long bar of tightly flattened soap flakes which is then cut into bars.
